The goals of 6.829 are to train the next generation of networking researchers, practitioners, and engineers. In particular, our goals are:
- To understand the state-of-the-art in network protocols, architectures and applications.
- To understand how networking research is done.
- To investigate novel ideas in the area via semester-long research projects.

The administrivia link on the left side talks about things that may help you decide whether to take the class or not, including prerequisites, workload, and grading. The other links on the side are useful only if you're taking the class.

- 10/18/05: Recitation on Friday, 10/21, has been canceled. Also, partial solutions to Problem Set 3 have been posted.
- 10/15/05: Quiz 1 is open-notes and open-papers. What that means is that you may, if you want, bring
- any hand-written notes relevant to the course,
- the notes from the course web pages,
- copies of the papers assigned to the course.
Please don't bring any other printed matter to the quiz.
- 10/11/05: Practice quizzes from previous years have been posted on the quizzes page.
- 10/10/05: Quiz 1 is on Thursday, 10/20/05, during regular class hours (11:05am start) and will cover all material from L1 through R6 (on 10/14/05). R6 is a quiz review session.
- 10/10/05: All notes from L1 through L8, except for L2 and L7, are now online.
- 10/4/05: Problem Set 3 is now available. It is due in recitation on Friday, October 14, 2005.
- 9/21/05: Problem Set 2 is now available. It is due in class on Thursday, September 29, 2005.
- 9/21/05: The recitations on fridays will be held in Room 3-370 from this week onwards.

- 9/17/05: The assigned reading for lecture #4 on tuesday (9/20), called "L4 notes", has been updated. Please download the latest version from the schedule page.
- Please note: Recitation this friday (9/16) will be held in 32-144
- Please note a few changes made to the schedule. More importantly, note that Quiz I has been shifted to 10/20.
- 9/13/05: The RMTP code for PS1 was updated with some minor bug fixes this
weekend. Please re-download the code if you got it before 4:30 pm on 9/10.
- 9/12/05: Slides from the lecture on 9/8 have been put up on the schedule page. You need a MIT certificate to access them.
- 9/10/05: Please note the changes in the office hours of the TAs.
- 9/8/05: Please start thinking about your course projects, project groups etc. as early as possible. Some ideas for projects will be put up on the website shortly.
- 9/8/05: Most lectures and recitations on the schedule have a "Preparation" note, which includes the material to be read before the corresponding lecture or recitation. Please make sure you come prepared to class having done the assigned readings.
- 9/8/05: Problem Set 1 is now available. It's due by 5:00 pm on September 22.
- 9/7/05: Recitation timings changed. Please note the new time and venue.
- 9/1/05. If you're an MIT undergraduate/MEng and want to take 6.829, 6.033 is a pre-requisite. It's best if you liked the material in that class and did reasonably well in it. If you haven't met this pre-req but believe you have good reasons to take 6.829, please talk to Professor Balakrishnan or send him email explaining your reasons.
